Everyone should review the Testing Instructions:
NOTE: If you are connected to the internet through a router,
please refer to you router's instructions for port forwarding instructions.
The DDNS service points to your router on the internet. This is required.
Your router must be configured to "connect" each desired internet service to
the specific computer behind your router.
Basic Test
- Click on the Start Button.
- Select Run from the menu.
- Open a command prompt:
- For Windows XP and 2000, type in the word cmd
in the Open Box and click the OK button.
- For Windows 98, type in the word command the
Run Box and click the RUN button.
- A black command similar to the following:

- Type in the following command (after the Z: in the
sample above):
- ping selected_host.selected_domain (enter)
- selected_host is the name entered during the program
setup
- selected_domain is the domain you selected during the
program setup.
- example: ping office.fhcc.com
- You will receive a reply similar to the following:

- You may only receive the first line of the reply
(Pinging selected_host.selected_domain [x.x.x.x] with 32 bytes of data:).
If you receive this single line, the DDNS service is working!
Testing Remote Desktop (Windows XP Professional Only)
- Ensure at lease one user has an assigned password.
(Only users with passwords are allowed to use remote desktop
- Right click on My Computer and select Properties from
the menu.
- Click on the Remote Tab
- Check Allow users to connect remotely to this computer.
- Configure port forwarding in your router for port
3389/TCP (if you use one)
- On the remote computer, select
Start/Programs/Accessories/Communications/Remote Desktop Connection.
(If you are not using Windows XP (Professional or Home),

the Remote Desktop Client Here
- In the computer box, enter
selected_host.selected_domain (the one you assigned to your computer
- Press the Connect button
- Enter the host computers User name and
Password when prompted and press the OK button.
- Your hosts desktop is displayed on the remote computer!
Testing Remote Access using VNC
-
Download and install VNC (Host)
- Start VNC and enter a host password.
- Configure port forwarding in your router for port
5900/TCP (if you use one)
- From a remote computer, Download and install VNC
(Viewer)
- Start VNC Viewer
- Enter selected_host.selected_domain in the VNC host box
and press connect.
- Enter the host password (you assigned in step 2)
- Your hosts desktop is displayed on the remote computer!
